Deanna Barbaro, a chiropractic physician, will hold a Stretch and Strengthen the Body for Golf, assisted by Wayne Dahlstrom, golf professional, at Riviera Golf Club, beginning on Saturday from 9 a. All instruction will be given by the Naples Grande Golf School staff and will include the Rules of Golf, etiquette, short game basics and golf swing fundamentals. Golf’s No. 1 attraction has some company this week (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)(Golf News)

Based on the commitment list, the first high-profile duel on the 2008 PGA Tour will unfold at this week’s Buick Invitational. Tiger Woods, the world’s top-ranked golfer, and Phil Mickelson, the No. Mickelson, who has been battling a respiratory ailment since October, postponed a Tuesday news conference but indicated he will play in Wednesday’s pro-am and still plans to make his 2008 season debut in San Diego. For Woods, defending champion at the Buick event, this also looms as his 2008 debut. Assuming that Mickelson competes Thursday, it will mark only the fifth time that Woods and Mickelson have begun their seasons at the same event. read more

West Salem hires girls golf coach (Salem Statesman Journal)- Golf News

West Salem High School has hired Kevin Goin as its girls golf coach. Goin spent the past five years as the boys golf coach at North Salem and was also the boys basketball coach there for four years. West Salem returns one of the top players in the league in senior Ashley O’Sullivan, who has placed third and second at the district meet the past two seasons. Salem Academy senior Elizabeth Beaty scored 50 points in two games for the Crusaders. Salem Academy sophomore Calvin Molan is the scoring leader for the Crusaders, who are a perfect 8-0 in league. OSD will host most of the games and some games will be held at Claggett Creek Middle School and the Boys and Girls Club gymnasiums. read more
