Golf News - 3 young moose wander onto golf course (AP via Yahoo! News)

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

Three young moose — a cow and two yearling bulls — ambled onto the golf course at Little America Hotel and Resort on Thursday. The moose wandered around the first three holes, took a dip in a pond, got a drink, then rested, according to Eric Fedell, grounds and golf manager at Little America. Game and Fish spokesman Eric Keszler said the moose probably came down from the Pole Mountain area more than 20 miles west of Cheyenne. Wyoming Game and Fish Department workers tranquilized the moose, loaded them onto a trailer and shipped them off to the Snowy Range about 100 miles west of town. Resort officials said they worried that the moose could wander onto nearby Interstate 80. We have a lot rabbit and geese, but no moose,” resort spokeswoman Sue Clark said. read more

Board to vote on privatizing S.F. golf courses (The San Francisco Examiner)- Topic: Golf News

Friday, June 29th, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO ( Map , News ) - The City is on course to erase an ongoing deficit in operating public golf courses that could also land San Francisco residents with acres of public open space. The plan comes as city officials have increasingly pressured the Recreation and Park Department to improve its operation of The Cityâs six public courses, which this year ran in the red and required a $1. The department supports the proposal, as it would eliminate its operating deficit of the courses as well as free up 27 gardeners at the three courses, who would be moved to work at neighborhood parks. As The City considers privatizing the courses, the Neighborhood Parks Council is asking The City to consider converting at least one of the courses to meet other recreational needs, such as soccer and hiking. read more
