Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville will be the site of the annual PGA Tour event for the next two years. Designed by Stanley Thompson and opened in 1929, the Royal York Golf Club was planned as a weekend retreat for guests of the Royal York Hotel. American Jim Furyk will try to win his third consecutive Canadian Open title, and first at Glen Abbey, in July. He became the first to repeat as Canadian Open champion since Jim Ferrier back in 1951, riding a hole-in-one to a one-stroke victory over Vijay Singh. Defending champion Venus Williams overcame an erratic start Thursday to defeat unseeded Anne Keothavong in straight sets and advance to the third round at Wimbledon. The Chicago Bulls defied lottery odds to land the top pick in this Thursday’s draft, where they’re expecting to pick freshman guard Derrick Rose from the University of Memphis or forward Michael Beasley from Kansas State. read more
